Why do business book authors use “she” instead of “he” when referring to managers?

Is this to break up the stereotype that women can’t be part of management?

It’s a trend of modern English to use “she” when the genre is undefined (it used to be he, then it was they now it’s she… go figure!).

Textbook publishers accepted the fact that traditional gender roles have changed in the past few decades and updated their practices to reflect that. I don’t mind so much when subjects are referred to as “she” throughout a book; what really annoys me is when they switch back and forth between “he” and “she” for the sake of equality.
