Simple Guide To Great Success
Search up the word SUCCESS in the webster and you’ll come across this definition: “The accumulation of material possession or the attainment of power, prestige, wealth, favor, or eminence.”
So if we all went about trying to attain success based on this definition, we could safely say that more that 90% of the human population can be labeled as unsuccessful or failures in life. So what is SUCCESS in its truest, most shining form?
Coach John Wooden has many thoughts on success, and he should know better. After all he was the one who took UCLA through many great years in the basketball court.. You will be amazed to know that often times, his beliefs are not all about winning but about how much we should be focusing on our individual personal growth capabilities.
Never try to be better than someone else
This isn’t really about putting yourself down or setting low standards that are easily attained for your own self- esteem. This is really about doing things within your capabilities and doing the very best at it.
Always learn from others
When we stop competing with others or wanting to be better than others, we leave our ego behind and then we see things we can learn from others to better ourselves.
Never cease trying to be the best you can be, that’s under your control.
So when you stop competing to beat others out of the game, we start turning the competition inward and compete with yourself. This is when you push your limits, expand your experiences and overcome your challenges. Never giving up is success in it’s own right..
Also, don’t get too absorbed in the things you have no control of
When you are too absorbed over something or a situation you have absolutely no control over, this frustration and concern will adversely affect the things you have control over.
Sportsmen or not, I think this poem written by George Moriarty, a former major baseball umpire, applies to every one of us:
Sometimes I think the fates must grin as we denounce them and insist,
The only reason we can’t win is the fates themselves have missed.
Yet, there lives on the ancient claim - we win or lose within ourselves,
The shining trophies on our shelves can never win tomorrow’s game.
So you and I know deeper down there is a chance to win the crown,
But when we fail to give our best, we simply haven’t met the test
Of giving all and saving none until the game is really won.
Of showing what is meant by grit, of fighting on when others quit,
Of playing through not letting up, it’s bearing down that wins the cup.
Of taking it and taking more until we gain the winning score,
Of dreaming there’s a goal ahead, of hoping when our dreams are dead,
Of praying when our hopes have fled. Yet, losing, not afraid to fall,
If bravely we have given all, for who can ask more of a man than giving all,
it seems to me, is not so far from - Victory.
And so the fates are seldom wrong, no matter how they twist and wind,
It’s you and I who make our fates, we open up or close the gates,
On the Road Ahead or the Road Behind.
